EC Ready To Announce Qualified Parliamentary Aspirants

10:18 Add Comment

The Electoral Commission says it is expecting its District Electoral officers to vet and release the list of aspirants who have qualified to contest in the 2016 parliamentary elections.

This follows the Commission’s announcement of the list of aspirants qualified to contest in the upcoming presidential elections at its Head Office in Accra on Monday.
The Commission revealed that, only four (4) out of the seventeen (17) aspirants qualified to contest in the December presidential polls.

According to the Director of Communications at the Electoral Commission, Eric Dzakpasu, all District Officers must publish the list of qualified parliamentary aspirants as part of their legal mandate.

He told Citi News, “When we go to the parliamentary, every returning officer receives the nomination, vets it and makes a determination to the Commission for approval, so in due course, a comprehensive list of all persons who are standing for the parliamentary will be published.”

Mr Dzakpasu expressed the hope that the announcement will be made “in due course”.
“It is a process and it wouldn’t take too long because we want to believe as at yesterday [Monday], all the constituencies were getting ready and so we expect that in due course within this period, the regions will be submitting the names of those whose forms have been accepted to the Head Office.”

Bishop Daniel Obinim, Founder and General Overseer of the International God’s Way Church has been in the news in the past days for publicly flogging his amorous children.
Obinim’s act has received different reaction from the public with many talking against it.

Several people threatened to sue the man of God and true to the words three of such individuals, they have dragged him to face the law. The three have sued International God’s Way Church and Bishop Daniel Obinim.

Obinim was reported to have said that any lawyer who sues him for flogging his children has no brains.

Obinim’s comment was after the decision by renowned human rights lawyer, Francis Xavier Sosu to haul him before an Accra Human Rights Court Friday for violating the dignity of his (Obinim’s) adopted children and also dehumanizing and degrading them, an act which is in contravention of Article 15 (1) and 15 (2) respectively of the 1992 constitution.

The controversial pastor ignited public outrage after he was seen in a video flogging the pregnant girl and her boyfriend. Infuriated by the couple’s lustful actions which resulted in a pregnancy, Bishop Obinim beat the youngman on his bare back with his belt before turning to the girl flogging her mercilessly in the full glare of his congregation.

During the beating session, Obinim is heard questioning the jobless youngman why he got the girl pregnant when he has no finances for her upkeep and the upbringing of the unborn child. The girl who was unable to stand the flogging attempts to escape, but she was held by a right-hand man of the Bishop to enable the bishop to subject her to more beatings.

After that, Obinim instructed his junior pastors to remove their belts and subject the couple to more flogging.

Obinim Explains Why He Whipped Children For Having S3x

07:46 Add Comment

The founder and leader of the International Godsway Church (IGWC), Bishop Daniel Obinim is in the news again for abusing two youngsters of his church who were said to have engaged in fornication that resulted in a pregnancy.

A new video which is circulating online shows the “Angel of God” whipping the two youngsters with a leather belt during a church service which was televised live on his OBTV. The incident was said to have happened on Wednesday August 17, 2016.

The crime of the two said to be around 20 years and 18 were that, they engaged in sexual relations which resulted in a pregnancy and secretly terminated it using a ‘crude’ method. In the video, many of his followers in the church, including his musician wife, Florence Obinim were seen laughing as Obinim whipped the duo for their “sins”.

He claimed his “angels” exposed the amorous relationship between the two to him and that instead of concentrating on learning a trade, they were rather having sex.

Whilst whipping and abusing them verbally, he said the young man was a student and the girl in question was learning a trade and therefore would not be able to cater a child and wondered why they should be having sex.

The girl in an attempt to escape the beatings sought refuge from Florence Obinim who was sitting on the dais but Obinim’s ‘apostles’ pulled her off and whipped her the more. Obinim who at a point looked tired asked his apostles to continue with the beatings.  Explaining, a spokesperson of the church, Mr Osei Oppong Brenya said the two were adopted children of Bishop Obinim and confirmed the incident indeed did happen in church on Wednesday.

He said the youngman was known as Illiasu, a student whilst the young lady was Gyasiwaa, who was learning to become a beautician. He said during ‘prophesy time’ in church on Wednesday, Bishop Obinim called the two and said God had revealed to him that Illiasu had impregnated Gyasiwaa and they have terminated the pregnancy, an act he sees as wrong and should not be entertained.

“As a father, when your child do something wrong, what you have to do is to discipline the child, so he went ahead to discipline them to serve as a deterrent to others who want to engage in such acts,” Mr Brenya said. He said the video which was circulating online was rather being used to malign Bishop Obinim.

According to him, Bishop Obinim was the one who was catering for the upkeep of the two, including their schools fees and that even some of their external family members were also being housed and catered for by the Bishop.

He said as a man of God, he would therefore not tolerate acts such as terminating a pregnancy and therefore disagreed with assertions that what he did was unlawful. He said as a father, punishing your children could be in different forms and that Bishop Obinim chose what he deemed appropriate for him.

Spain intercepts Ghana-bound assault rifles, grenade launchers

Spanish security authorities have found a store of arms bound to Ghana from the US, as per Swiss news source swissinfo.ch.

The report said the Spanish Common Watchman revealed the stash of 737 strike rifles and 72 projectile launchers, all made in Switzerland being sent to Ghana from the US.

The aggregate estimation of the reserve of arms has been put around $1.64 million.

The report demonstrates that the wellspring of the arms can be followed to Hungary, showing up in Spain a puzzle.

The revelation, the report says, was made on August 4, 2016.

Refering to Spanish powers, the report said the arms were announced "dismantled", however they were "new rifles in their unique bundling. As indicated by the going with records – which had some data missing – the weapons were to be transported to Ghana from business firearm merchants in the Unified States."

The Spanish are presently exploring the matter, the report said.

A Swiss production, Tages-Anzeiger which took a gander at the conveyance's fare record, affirmed that the weapons were for sure made in Switzerland and the exporters anticipated that the conveyance would go to Ghana, by means of a merchant in Hungary, in 2010.

It likewise put the aggregate estimation of the arms around $1.64 million, including that the purchaser, was given as the National Security Gathering of Ghana, noticing that certifications were made that the weapons would not be sold on, and would be for military use.

Spiritualist threatened to expose juju Pastors in Ghana.

05:32 Add Comment

To the congregants of most religious organizations in the country, their pastors or leaders are shepherding them well and providing them with the needed spiritual guidance but a Suhum-based spiritualist has a contrary view.

Torgbe Huntehunu Vigbedor alleges that most miracles performed by most Ghanaian pastors these days are not a manifestation of God’s handy work but voodoo powers from the underworld and has vowed to expose them.

The two decades practicing spiritualist who boasted of being a godfather for many notable pastors perceived as the most powerful men of God in the country, indicates that it is time to blow their cover for the country to know their true identity.

He is cautioning congregants of Churches to be wary of pastors who use items such as anointing water and oil, handkerchiefs among others; indicating that these persons are instructed to always chant certain incantations in the form of speaking tongues on the stated items which aids them in performing certain miracles.

Speaking on Koforidua-based Bryte FM, he expressed worry that, many of these pastors who seek spiritual direction from him to increase their ‘flock’ turn to pretend they are waging spiritual wars against spiritualists in the country just to cover up for their fake powers.

He threatened to blow the cover of such pastors especially those who visit him for supernatural powers.

Wayoosi Makes U-Turn, Says Prez. Mahama Gave Him Gh 5000

02:58 Add Comment

Actor Joseph Nana Osei Kofi popularly known as Wayoosi has swallowed back his words that president Mahama did not give him an amount of Gh 5000 when he was on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

Early Wednesday, August 17, the Kumawood star told Eugene Moratt in an interview on New Mercury, a Kumasi-based radio station that “it was the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare who delegated some industry players to give him the amount but not the first gentleman of the land as it was reported.”

Wayoosi’s comment has generated argument on major entertainment platforms in the country. In less than 24 hours after the report, the actor has retracted his words.

Wayoosi Wednesday afternoon stated that he made those comments because the nurses who informed him about the cash said it was the minister who sent a delegation to make the donation. According to him, he was not notified that the president sent the money through the ministry before he had the interview on New Mercury.

He continued that his wife who welcomed the delegation made him aware that it was the first gentleman of the land who sent the money through the ministry after he had granted the interview on the radio station.

“I was asleep when they brought the money because of my sickness so I didn’t see anybody during their visit.

What the nurses told me after I woke up was that the minister asked the delegation to bring me the money. I should’ve asked further but I didn’t so after I finished the interview on the radio station yesterday and told my wife about what I said concerning who donated the money, it was then that she told me that it was the president who sent it not the woman.

My wife is the one who collected the money. She told me that it was the president who sent the money but it went through the woman because she is the minister for our industry” said Wayoosi

Ghana teen beats the odds, advances to Spelling Bee finals

Afua’s coach Emmanual Afful hopes that Afua’s success in the Bee is something that can inspire their African nation.
“It is a very proud moment for me and I believe it has happened because of the years of hard work and determination,” Afful said. “I can’t explain how happy I am, but I am very proud.

“The thing I told her is that, ‘Children in America are no different than children around the world,’” he continued. “The only difference is we are poorer at reading and writing. And so I posed a challenge to her to read, study, ask question and be curious and you’ll be there and that is exactly what happened.”

After nearly acing her written exam on Tuesday, Afua easily spelled “hauberk” and “senescent” on Wednesday. She was one of 177 to spell both words correctly Wednesday, but based on examination of spellers on Tuesday, she earned the second-highest score going into Wednesday.

“I’ve already seen them, they are familiar words to me,” Afua said of senescent and hauberk.

Afua, and the other 44 finalists, will take the stage at 10 a.m. Eastern, or 2 p.m. Ghana Time, on Thursday. The beginning of the finals will be televised on ESPN2 and continued at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Afua said when she returns the Ghana, she looks forward to sharing the experience with her friends and family.

During her time in Washington, Afua said she has gotten to visit a number of monuments and the Smithsonian Zoo. Another thing that awed Afua was the Capital Wheel; a large Ferris wheel along the Potomac, just outside the Spelling Bee’s hotel.

“We don’t have those in Ghana,” she said. “We tried it and it was awesome.”

It was an experience that needed the help of sponsors, and Afua said she’s appreciative to them.

“In Ghana doesn’t have much of sponsorship as it does here, so people don’t consider it so much so making it here is a big thing already,” Afua said. “I have gotten some calls from my country, we see you here, we see you on the website.”

One thing Afua has in common with many other spellers is her love of music.

Afua said her favorite artists are Adele, Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

According to a survey of spellers, Taylor Swift and Adele are the two most popular artists among spellers.

Police to shut down social media on election day

10:33 Add Comment
The Ghana Police Service has said it is considering shutting down social media services in the country on  November 7, the day of the general elections.

According to the Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor, the abuse of social media platforms by both political parties and ordinary Ghanaians has often created unnecessary tension in the country.

He believes that given the strain that preparations towards the elections have put on the country’s security apparatus, it would be unwise to ignore the potential of social media as an incendiary point for violence.
“At one stage I said that if it becomes critical on the eve and also on the election day, we shall block all social media as other countries have done. We’re thinking about it,” John Kudalor said.

In February, the Ugandan government shut down social media in the country in what president Yoweri Museveni  called a “security measure to avert lies” as he was re-elected for a fifth term in office.

This was repeated when he was sworn into office in May, with many human rights activists advocates accusing the government of suppressing free speech.

Jonh Kudalor said that the police were following the example set by other countries but added that the police was also mulling over the possibility of setting up social media accounts of their own.
He said this would enable them to counter the actions of potential ‘troublemakers’ who might compromise security operations during the elections.

“We are also thinking about the other alternative that the police should be IT compliant and get our own social media [account] to be able to stop these things on time,” John Kudalor explained.

“We are looking at the variables and come D-Day, we’ll come out with a decision,” he added.

“Some Intellectuals Are Dumb, Ghana Is Worst Today!!”-Rawlings

09:11 Add Comment
Former President, Jerry John Rawlings, has descended heavily on the country’s leaders saying they have done nothing to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.

According to him, those claiming to be living the ideals of the country’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, are doing the opposite of what he stood for, calling such people criminals. The former president ranted in anger while he was addressing a delegation from the Association of Cuban Trained Ghanaian Professionals at his residence on Tuesday.

According to Mr. Rawlings, even though the country has good policies and strong institutions to drive the prosperity of its people, the current leaders have rather worsened their plight. Mr. Rawlings however defended his 1979 coup.

“We are worst today than we were before. You know we did out bit from the 80s. In 1979, we had no choice; people were angry and it was a time of rage. We had to handover but then we had to come back again in 81 or 82. We could have stayed on for another eight or sixteen just to work to consolidate situations very well and proper.

“And I made a suggestion to my colleagues that considering that people are becoming saturated with us or with me, let me let Justice Annan takeover and I can be his number 2 or step aside.

“He can serve four years or eight years then I could come back; and that will be sixteen years of consolidation because what we had noticed was that his characters will destroy anything and everything so let’s not allow it.”

He continued, “Some of my comrades said no and that it’s never been done before. Is that not what Putin did recently? We would have been the first to do it here.

That would have helped to consolidate because quote often we make reference to institutions but the institutions rely on the human factor and if those human entities are not bold enough to defy that which is wrong, that institution will be weak; am I lying?” he asked.

So-called Nkrumahists are criminals

“Can you believe that those of us, we don’t even regard ourselves as Nkrumahists. Those who call themselves Nkrumahists are the worst offenders; criminals. From Mills till now, not even one single policy resembles anything Nkrumah stood for or believed in.

The Former President explained again why he thinks the late President John Evans Atta Mills was a disappointment as a president.

“We did everything possible to lift up this country and that’s why people kept wishing we were back. But as soon as we handed over; the guy turned the wheels one 180 degrees. Some of the most outrageous things were happening. I remember trying to tell Mills and giving him details about some of the issues but it surprised me though that for a brilliant man like him, [Mills] he couldn’t see.

“He was so shallow. Crime perpetuates itself if you don’t deal with it, and how Mills couldn’t see through this is something I couldn’t understand. It was so bad that even who had been misused to jail innocent people some in Ghana, some in Ivory Coast were on standby to escape and this as we were approaching the 2008 elections.

“But our brother Mils had been so badly persuaded. As he put it to me, he had been advised to let things be and the money will flow. Mills was disappointing. Some of your so-called intellectual creatures are dumb,” he concluded.

John Paintsil’s Big Sister Speaks | Dishes Out on All the SHOCKING THINGS That Have Been Going on Between John & His Wife-Richlove Paintsil + MORE

Richlove Paintsil

Former Black Stars footballer-John Paintsil has earned a media reputation for himself as a woman beater, based on unending allegations: that he once beat his wife-Richlove Paintsil which ended him in police custody—and also that he did beat a police woman yesterday when his wife reported him at the East Legon Police station, where he is currently in cells.

It has always been media reports based on allegations mounted by the wife—but this time, his big sister-Tina Paintsil has exclusively spoken to GhanaCelebrities.Com, dishing out everything that there’s to know.

Tina Paintsil, based in London contacted GhanaCelebrities.Com’s Editor-Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri because she feels the story has always been one sided and unfair to John Paintsil who for all that has been happening these years has said nothing in the media.

Therefore, it’s time for people to know the true story (as she puts it) and establish for themselves whether indeed John Paintsil who has been excessively supportive of his wife-Richlove Paintsil, demands all that she has been cruelly serving him.
This is the car mentioned in the below audio

Apparently, John Paintsil’s wife has been spending a lot of late nights in clubs, sometime she does not even come home—and the sort of stuffs she wears for her late night outings are not what a married Ghanaian woman should proudly be wearing.

In fact, it’s believed that she is cheating, one of the reasons why she is always at loggerheads with her husband.

We are told, though still married to John Paintsil, she has packed her things out of her matrimonial home and claims she has rented her own place—and then there’s the issue of money and property thievery.

Many of the relationships between footballers and their wives are full of problems, mostly around when the footballers’ careers are at the lowest—perhaps, most of these women come in for the gold-digging, and when the gold mines are almost dry, the cheating, gross disrespect and ill-treatments set him.

And it could also be that, these footballers are not handling their relationships as they ought to.

Whatever it is, the conundrum is far from being solved—and John Paintsil and wife’s issue from what his sister has narrated is far deeper than we knew.

Now, we know a little more—shocking and unfortunate.

Former Moderator of the conference of the Presbyterian church of Ghana, Rev. Dr Frimpong Manso, who resigned from the church last year has denied rumours he is Gay.

At a press conference in Accra he said the decision to resign follows a resolution by the leadership of the Presby Church Ghana to sever their relationship with pro-homosexual Presbyterian Church, United States of America over their decision to ordain gay priests.

Dr Frimpong Manso asked members of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to question the leadership of the church to explain the rationale behind his dismissal from the church and all the falsehood that has been leveled against.

Rev. Dr Manso who is on assignment to the church in USA had been recalled and asked to report back to Ghana by December 31 2015 as a result of the fallout.

But Rev. Dr Manso who heads a church with gays and lesbians dominance in the United State of America said he is still married to his wife adding that nothing will compel him to change his sexual orientation as a Minister of the Gospel and his church, Presbyterian Church of the USA.

The Former Moderator said his church in the USA is protected by law where it is mandated to bless only marriages between men and women and not otherwise.

Meanwhile, the former moderator said he still considers himself as a member of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and therefore has every right to enter into any of the auditorium of the church without any restriction.

Gov’t orders probe into ECG billing anomalies

The government has instructed the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) to investigate the numerous complaints from consumers on suspected anomalies in electricity billing.

According to the Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the government has received litany of complaints from residential and business customers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) about suspected anomalies in their bills following the last adjustment in utility tariffs by the PURC.

It said government agrees with the complainants that the reported anomalies are affecting the income and operating costs of consumers and must be urgently looked into.

The regulatory body has therefore been asked to ensure that the ECG rectifies “the billing system to reflect the tariffs approved by the Commission.”

The state-owned power distributor has also been directed to “cooperate effectively” with the PURC and the Energy Commission to ensure speedy resolution of the suspected anomaly in the billing system.

Consumers of the ECG are also encouraged to present to the PURC their complaints with accompanying receipts and bills to help with the investigative process, the Minister said in a statement.

“We believe an effective execution of this request will lead to the resolution of the concerns raised by the citizenry,” the statement added.

15 Jamaican Patois Words That Originated From Ghana

03:13 Add Comment

After the abolishing of the Atlantic Slave Trade, many slaves that were from Africa were left to live in the island plantations they worked on. Some of these lands later evolved into countries such as Jamaica.
Many of them were from different African countries and thus communication was a bit of a challenge since education was restricted.

So they came up with their own language which is now popularly known as Patois. A fusion of bits of different languages including English. So you’re likely to come across some words in patois that can be found in many African languages most predominantly Ghana. It is believed most of the slaves that were shipped to Jamaica were from Gold Coast.

Well! Let’s find out how true this assertion is.

1. Adrue – Medicine
Medicine in the Patois language is Adrue, pronounced “Aduru” which actually comes from the Akan language “Aduru” or “Aduro” which also stands for medicine.

2. Afasayah – Wild Yam
Wild yam in Akan is termed as “Afasew” and the Jamaicans term it as “Afasayah”, you see the similarities?

3. Afu – Farm
They term the plantation or the farm as “Afu” in Patois, same as “Afuw” in the Akan language.

4. Anansi – Spider
Thought only the Akans call it Anansi right, the Jamaicans also call it Anansi too.

5. Bafan – Baby
A baby below the age of two is called a “Bafan” in Patois and the word was derived from “Bofra” in the Akan language.

6. Broni – White person
They say Broni too in Patois

7. Casha – Thorn
Thorn in Akan is “Kasei” and in Patois the word is “Casha” which is where the word was derived from.

8. Dokunu – Kenkey
The Jamaicans say Dokuno too.

9. Nana – Grandparents
Nana means grandparents in the Akan language, it means the same in Patois too.

10. Opete – Vulture
We say Opete, they say opete too and it means the same.

11. Poto-poto – Mud
Akans will say, potoo or poto poto, the Jamaicans say same too.

12. Kaba-Kaba – Unreliable
Means fast fast in Ewe, to describe an unreliable person in Patois but the word is also predominant in the Ewe language too.

13. Mumu – Dumb
Mumu means dumb in both the Ewe and the Akan language and it also means same in Patois.

14. Kongkos – Gossip
The Jamaican will say, Kongkos and the Akan will say, Konkonsa. Hope you catch the drift.

15. Dote – Ground
Dote means ground in Patois and in Akan it means sand and you can clearly see where it is coming from.

Years ago, he was known for his hit single ‘Wope Dodo’, and a crazy lifestyle. All of that changed when he was involved in an accident on the Accra-Tema Motorway with a friend on Monday, April 15, 2013, on their way back from Accra.

Their Toyota Camry car somersaulted near the Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) Dominion Centre. They were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital. Siki was later admitted and treated for deeps cuts on his head.

He was subsequently discharged after spending some two weeks at the military-run health facility.

His then manager, Coaches told this reporter in August 2013 that after Siki’s full recovery he will be doing ‘positive’ music.

“He is fine … as in he’s recovering … he’s 80% through with the recovery process. I can say he’s fine compared to how everything started he is fine now. This time around, it’s going to be more positive music. That’s what he is thinking now. Life by R2Bees is an example of positive music.”

In March, 2014, Siki announced via a post on his Facebook wall that he was done with secular music and now a gospel musician.

His new life meant he had no stable income. Siki told Hitz FM’s Gloria Nyarku in an interview, he depends on his family and preaching to survive.

“(With) my bills, my family supports me and then when I preach, people give [me money], when I preach I do not ask but when I finish and some people call me, oh take this, take that and all with family support I am able to pay bills.”

“Last year December, I [preached] at the Motorway Roundabout and a man gave me GHc500. That’s the highest I have received so far,” he disclosed.

“I preach in the Trotros (Commercial buses). I preach in between lanes in the communities.”

An offer by Gospel artiste Sonnie Badu to help was rejected because he (Yaw Siki) felt that the offer was made public just for human praise and deemed it ‘‘dishonourable’.

“If he truly wanted to assist, he could have contacted me first without making it public. I’m not in support of that because my Christian beliefs are against that so upon careful consideration, I had to turn down the offer.”

Badu told Antoine Mensah on Lifestyle Cafe on Live FM that the offer to help wasn’t made out of malice or to embarrass the Siki.

“My motive was to let him know that we are there for him. It was a touchy subject when he said he depends on money from people when he preaches. My motive was not to embarrass him, if that is how he felt I apologize.”

Safe to say that all that doesn’t matter any more, Siki is in a good place.
